Norwegian black metal pioneers. Quality shirts, vinyl, and collectibles.
Darkthrone started in Kolbotn, Norway, in 1986 as Black Death โ doing death metal first. Then 1991 happened and they met Euronymous from Mayhem. Game changer. They went full black metal and never looked back.
The “Unholy Trinity” is what fans call their first three black metal albums โ A Blaze in the Northern Sky (1992), Under a Funeral Moon (1993), and Transilvanian Hunger (1994). These basically wrote the playbook for Norwegian black metal with that raw, lo-fi production.
After some controversy with Transilvanian Hunger, the band made it clear: “Darkthrone is not a Nazi band.” Since 2006, they’ve mixed black metal with punk and doom influences. They haven’t played live since 1996 โ total studio hermits.
